Progress to Date
To help us put our plan into effect, we identified three action points:
- Audit the office environment
- Review the office environment from the point of view of someone with dementia, and make improvements where possible.
- Install signs throughout the office make it easier for people to navigate around the building.
- Review of leaflets and literature
- Review leaflets and literature from the point of view of someone with dementia, and make improvements where possible.
- Ensure business cards used by our Wills and Probate team are in large font and include a photo of the relevant member of staff.
- Staff training and engagement
- Arrange Dementia Friends training for more of our staff, with a view ultimately to having an in-house Dementia Champion.
- Arrange in-depth training from the SCIE Open Dementia Programme for those members of staff whose work brings them into contact most regularly with clients affected by dementia.
We carried out an audit of the office environment in January 2015. We installed dementia friendly signs throughout the building in May 2015.
We designed new business cards for those members of staff whose work brings them into contact most regularly with clients affected by dementia. These came into use in late 2014. They are in large font and include a photo of the relevant member of staff.
We arranged Dementia Friends training sessions for staff (and also for third parties with whom we have links). A total of twenty eight current members of staff have attended Dementia Friends training sessions. We plan to arrange SCIE training for those members of staff who have completed their Dementia Friends training and are ready for more in-depth training later this year. We have four in-house Dementia Champions – Helen Webster, Adam Fletcher, Jill Waddington and Victoria Maude.
